Gerald Peters Contemporary is pleased to announce its participation in the Dallas Art Fair 2025 with a solo presentation of new and recent works by Elizabeth Hohimer. Engaged with aspects of weaving, painting, and sculpture, the exhibition will feature Hohimer’s signature woven paintings alongside three-dimensional objects she calls totems.
A Texas-based artist, Hohimer’s practice is emphatically non-representational, yet her work is rooted in evocations of the West Texas landscape. Her woven works are atmospheric compositions comprised of vertical bands in varying sizes that employ a reduced palette reminiscent of the deserts that inspired the work. Interested in conveying the transcendent, Hohimer’s compositional choices are accompanied by the conviction that those elements could reveal the presence of philosophical truths, harmony and order. These elements, more closely affiliated with painting, distinguish the work from its traditional utilitarian associations and bridge the compositions to the Modern histories of painting.
