Gerald Peters Contemporary is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by Elizabeth Hohimer. Engaged with aspects of painting and sculpture, the exhibition will feature her signature woven paintings alongside monotypes and three-dimensional objects she calls totems.
For Hohimer, the last year was a time of profound artistic development and focus. Challenged and inspired by new staining techniques and material choices, her studio practice flourished, and her work became more ambitious and expansive.
Anchored in conventions of weaving, Hohimer’s inventive reinterpretation of traditional skills and remarkable adeptness with material and textures result in intuitively constructed and deeply personal compositions that alternatively conjure observations, place, and memory.
Looking at her work as a means of translating her own experiences and harnessing the energy of her impressions, Hohimer has created a visual vocabulary built on sensorial experience. Employing space, color and perception, Hohimer’s work seeks to, “…dive into the shared psychological landscapes that certain colors and materials provide…and propel truth, reckoning, and self-realization.”
Elizabeth Hohimer is an artist from Texas, born in 1991. She received her BFA in Textiles from the California College of the Arts. In 2022 she was artist-in-residence at the Ucross Foundation in Ucross, WY and was included in the exhibition “Time, Mark, Memory: Ucross at 40” curated by Los Angeles Times art critic Leah Ollman. Her works are included in prominent private collections nationwide.
