Marguerite Zorach (1887-1968) and William Zorach (1889-1966) both spent their student years together entrenched in and enthralled by the world of modern art in Paris—an experience which colored their artistic accomplishments for the remainder of their careers.

Upon their return to New York in 1912, they married, set up a studio, and exhibited together in the famous Armory Show (1913).  The couple were part of rich artistic circles both in New York and Maine and were involved in multiple exhibitions—both commercial and museum—as well as commissions and projects such as Rockefeller Center.

Both artists utilized their family, their pets, and their shared natural world as centerpieces for their creative output, and both grew and changed as artists with the current of the 20th Century.

This 50-year relationship, and the Zorach’s partnership as an artistic couple, is celebrated in A Collaboration in American Modernism.
