Shadow and Light: Denise LaRue Mahlke and Jeri Nichols Quinn

Shadow and Light bring together the landscape paintings of Denise LaRue Mahlke and Jeri Nichols Quinn. Although stylistically and geographically very different, their use of shadow and light connects their separate visions. Quinn’s paintings are very textural composed of bold impressionist strokes that rest on the golden hues of hills and valleys. Mahlke employs soft pastels to create smooth luminous representations of land and sky that seamlessly melt into one other. Her realistic interpretation of landscape is a visible counterpoint to the more abstract representations found in the work of Quinn.
